Unit purpose

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify networking and collaboration needs and develop formal and informal partnerships to enhance service delivery and improve professional practice. This unit applies to work in all industry sectors, and to individuals who take pro-active responsibility for improving collaboration between workers and organisations.

Assessment plan

To demonstrate competence in this unit, you must successfully complete each of the following assessment events:

Event 1

Event 2

Written task - Work collaboratively

Assessment events

Assessment event 1: Portfolio - Develop collaboration strategies

This event requires you to submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates your ability to identify networks and develop collaboration strategies.Your evidence must include the following items:

  1. Research networks
  2. Written response

Your answers must address the criteria listed in the table below.

You must meet the marking criteria below in order to successfully complete this assessment event.

1. Research networks

Research and gather information from 10 organisations, services and people using the template provided.

1. Identify the target group your research will be addressing.

2. Identify services, organisations or individuals that would be appropriate for you to collaborate or network with as a worker providing services to your chosen target group. You must include:

o A minimum of 10 entries in total o At least one private organisation o At least one public organisation o At least one individual person o At least one network must involving virtual collaboration

o At least one peak body o Contact details for each entry o An explanation of the role and function of each entry

2. Written response

Based on completing your research and listing your networks in section 1, provide responses to the following in a Word document.

1. Explain how you would establish working relationships with the services, organisations or people you have identified.

2. Provide two examples of how you would apply the principles of collaboration with the services, organisations or people you have identified.

3. Identify three potential benefits of collaboration and networking for:

o the client group o the organisation

o you as a worker.

4. Explain how you would promote a positive image of the organisation you work for at available opportunities.

5. Identify where there is duplication of services in your list and describe how you and your organisation could share information and resources to overcome any duplication.

6. Explain how you would identify any gaps in your networks and collaborative practice after and describe one action you would take to fill the gap.

7. Outline what you would include in a collaborative agreement contract to ensure there is agreement on both sides.

8. Explain how you would protect:

o the organisation’s copyright and intellectual property when you collaborate with others outside your organisation

o client privacy, confidentiality and disclosure during your collaboration with others.

9. Describe how you would communicate

issues, policies and practices of the organisation you work for and in what format.

10. Describe how you would make sure your network stays up-to-date and accessible to you and others.

11. Explain how you would maintain and improve these networks and collaborative partnerships so they continue to provide benefits to you, the client and organisation.

12. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the collaborations you would make. Include:

o two strengths

o two weaknesses or limitations and how you could overcome these

o how these collaborations would meet your own goals as a worker.

Assessment event 2: Written task - Work collaboratively

This event requires you to submit evidence that demonstrates your ability to work collaboratively with external individuals or groups in at least three different service delivery situations.The assessment for this event is based on the following scenarios. Your evidence must include the following item:

  1. Planning templates x 3

Your answers must address the criteria listed in the table below.

You must meet the marking criteria below in order to successfully complete this assessment event.

1. Planning templates x 3

Complete one planning template for each scenario.

1. Produce three planning templates for three different service delivery situations.

2. Identify the target group and at least three needs

3. Outline at least three aims (i.e. what you want to achieve) in meeting the needs of the target group, including the priority of these aims.

4. Describe at least three ways these aims will improve organisational performance.

5. Explain how you will meet the needs of the target group, including:

o at least four actions you would take o the order in which you will do these actions

o when you will do these actions.

6. List the stakeholders you will collaborate with or seek information from:

o internally o externally.

7. Describe how you will collaborate with these stakeholders:

o formally o informally.

8. Identify at least three barriers you may face to achieve the aims.

9. List at least three resources you will need to achieve the aims.
