The weekly quizzes will assess your knowledge and understanding of key concepts in the Project Management Knowledge Areas. For successful completion of the quiz, you are required to study the material provided (lecture slides, tutorials, and reading materials), engage in the unit’s activities, and in the discussion forums. The prescribed textbook is the main reference along with the recommended reading material. By completing this assessment successfully, you will be able to identify key aspects of the best project management practices. This will then help in achieving ULO1, this in turn will help you in achieving CLO-1, which collectively with other unit learning outcomes will help in achieving GA2.

Marking Information: The quiz will be marked out of 100 and will be weighed 40% of the total unit mark.

Assessment Details:

In this Assignment students undertake an analysis of the MIS Project Management at First National Bank Case Study in the Project Management: Case Studies book (Kerzner 2013). 

All projects at First National Bank (FNB) have project managers assigned and are handled through the Information Services Division (ISD). The Case describes one project, the development of a corporate database, and the resulting failure.

Students are required to perform tasks and answer the following questions:

  1. Why the ISD was created?
  2. What is the ISD position in the FNB organizational chart? Justify the ISD position in the chart.
  3. What is the FNB Project Management structure (functional, project and matrix)? Explain.
  4. What is the FNB Project Proposal Life Cycle? Who is involved and how in the Cycle?
  5. Who are the stakeholders involved in the FNB Information System Development project?
  6. How you would you describe Initiating and Planning FNB Information System Project Management Process Groups in relation to the Project Management Knowledge Areas?
  7. Provide a SWOT analysis of an FNB Information System Development project and explain why the project failed.

Two documents should be submitted:

  1. MS Word document. You must follow the Harvard style sources references.
  2. MS Power Point presentation (up to 20 slides)

In your work on the assignment you need to use the following sources:

Sunshine Homes is a real estate agency specialising in the rental of accommodation in Australia. The company has grown rapidly, employs 90 agents, and 5 new offices were open. The company management decided to upgrade the company IT infrastructure and develop a new Cloud-based Management Information System. 

The current organizational structure of the company is shown in Figure 1. The two founders have divided the business between them. John Martin (who has a sales background) looks after the rentals/maintenance and operations side, and Ben West, an accountant, takes care of finance and administration. The small IT department within the administration function has an IT team where Kate Rose is an IT manager and Jack Fry is a team leader. 

The Sunshine Homes directors decided to outsource the Web development and signed a contract with the PB Web Design company who will develop the Cloud-based Management Information System. Kate Rose will be responsible for handling both communication with Phil Brown, PB Web

Design director, and the Sunshine Homes offices IT infrastructure (network, hardware, software etc.)

The following cost categories are included in the proposed business model:

The Applied Project assignment includes the following tasks:

  1. Explain phases of the Project Life Cycle (PLC)
  2. Create a Stakeholder Register (SR) and Communication Management Plan (CMP)
  3. Create a Project Charter (PC)
  4. Create a Project Network Diagram (PND)
  5. Calculate the project cost and the Net Present Value (NPV)
  6. Create the Project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

The submission should include 2 files:
