Project 2: Coast to Coast Inc.
INTRODUCTION
You have accepted a contract to participate in the design of the network infrastructure of a company called Coast to Coast Inc. whose operations are located in two offices at the extreme ends of Canada. The East Office is in St. John’s, Newfoundland, while the West Office is found in Victoria, BC. Your job is to develop IP addressing schemes at both locations as well as to assist in selecting routing protocols for the two sites.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this project are:
- Design a valid IP addressing scheme for a given LAN
- Perform IP addressing and subnetting calculations
- Choose a routing protocol to meet specified requirements

- Developing an IP addressing scheme for the East Office
The East Office site consists of 6 network subnets with the number of hosts as indicated in the table below.

A decision has already been made to use private addressing on the internal LAN of the East Office and your boss wants you to use a single class C address and implement subnetting to accommodate all 6 subnets.

You are to use a single private class B address and implement subnetting to accommodate all 10 subnets. (Note: Assume zero subnets are not to be used in this exercise)
- Choose an appropriate valid private IP address for the LAN
- Choose a subnet mask that will leave enough host address space to accommodate all the hosts on the subnets assuming that the largest amount of hosts will never exceed 320, but due to future expansion the number of subnets may increase to 100 subnets. Write down that subnet mask and the number of hosts it will allow on each subnet.
