The discussion started with the definition of scope creep and how it might affect the project schedule.
- Solongo stated that: Identifying the scope of the project using inputs from all stakeholders is an essential imperative task at the early stage of the project. The purpose of defining the project is to provide sufficient information that is necessary to define the work to be performed to avoid significant changes that can adversely impact on project performance[ CITATION Fag13 \l 1033 ]. Also, the project schedule is derived from the work breakdown structure, so the scope baseline is essential for developing the schedule management plan[ CITATION Hel13 \l 1033 ].
In the given ALF case study, the project manager included all stakeholders in the process of scope definition as operational, marketing, legal and construction managers to achieve a well-defined scope.
- Sikandar Added: A project scope effect the project schedule in different ways depend upon what sort of scope creep occur. This type of words is very harmful in project’s way of execution. Projects are complex endeavors with 100’s of moving part. Any change or delay on any step can affect the whole performance of project delivery and effect performances of project managers in terms of delay. In given case study of ALF project there are some scope creeps who might affect the whole project in terms of delay and poor management (Millhollan, 2008). Example, the upcoming council elections was creating hurdle which are the cause of unavailability of two project members. This creep brings an unnecessary delay in completing of project in time because board members were planning to open the facility till June 2022. But some things were happening which are technical problems and some of them are self-created which can harm the whole project delay.
Solongo shared the same thoughts saying that: In order to communicate with various project stakeholders formally, the project manager can use a “Communication management plan”. According to the PMBOK Guide, the communication management plan includes requirements of communications, information, the reason for distributing information and information receiver. Communication formal process could be reports, minutes, briefings and informal activities could be emails, memos and ad-hoc discussions. Additionally, the project manager can use communication techniques to transfer information among all stakeholders, such as brief conversation or extended meetings, written documents or extensive materials that are able to access online. Also, the project manager can use communication methods, such as interactive communication, push communication, and pull communication (PMBOK® Guide, 2013). Poor communication between project managers and stakeholders could be the reason for the problem[ CITATION Fag13 \l 1033 ]. According to the St. Dismas ALF case, Fred has attempted to involve all stakeholders in the project. He introduced his initial project plan to the Board and requested approval from them and set up the team from Board and all department directors who can contribute to the project. If the Chief Legal Counsel was not involved in the project team, the
project could have been delayed due to legal issues and would have affected the project's
