MIME Media Types in HTML
MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension. It is media type which was initially used to include information other than plain content in an email . It denotes the underlying things
The way of combing different parts of messages like text and attachments into a message
How the part of message is represented
How various things are encoded for transmission?
Nowadays it is deployed by web servers as a way to tell web browsers to handle the kind of messages correctly
It is allotted and listed officially by IANA – Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
While MIME type specification for a content type, denote the set of character for the used text
If the character set is not represented, the US-ASCII is the default
e.g.
content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1
It has 2 parts
Main and sub type
To separate main type from sub forward slash is introduced
e.g
text/html for HTML
The main types include
text
audio
image
video
multipart
model
message and
application
The main type holds type of plain text files like
Plain text files - text/plain
HTML files - text/html
Text file with rich text formatting – text/rtf
