C Programming Language Overview
Overview:
Dennis Ritchie developed C language in 1972 at Bell Lab. It is one of the most widely used high level languages. The programming paradigm of C is procedural which supports Structured Programming or Modular programming paradigm. C follows the logical structure on the program being written. It also divides the problem into small problem or modules each of which accomplish their task.
Advantages of ‘C’:
- To make more efficient programs
- Programs written in C are easier to understand and modify
- Portable on Platforms
- Suitable to write both Application and System Programs
Environment setup for C program execution:
The following steps shall be followed for clean execution of C program
- Create your program
- Compile your program
- Execute your program
For Unix/Linux Operating System, Default Compiler is cc/gcc
Program Creation:
Program can be written in notepad/notepad++ and can be saved with extension with”.”
Eg., $ program1.c
Compilation:
Program can be complied using compiler. In this case we will use “cc”.
Eg., $ cc program1.c
Execution:
After a successful clean build. Do the program now.
