The Master of Business Administration (MBA or M.B.A.) attracts people from a wide range of academic disciplines. It is a much sought after course and aims at inculcating managerial skills. Foreign universities such as those in US, UK, Canada require students to submit their GMAT scores. GMAT test has had three sections – verbal section, mathematics section and analytical writing skills. The verbal section contains 41 multiple choice questions. The quantitative section has 37 multiple choice questions that have to be answered within 75 minutes. The questions in this section fall under two categories – problem solving questions and data sufficiency questions. The score scale is 0-60. The analytical writing section assesses the writing skills of the candidate. The test consists of two essays – one to analyze an argument and the other to analyze an issue. Each essay should be completed within 30 minutes. The score scale is 0-6.
Presently, a new section called Integrated Reasoning (IR) is being introduced which will test candidates by measuring their ability to manage, synthesize and draw conclusions from multiple sources of data and information, such as graphs, charts and spreadsheets. The IR section will have 12 questions to be answered in 30 minutes.
